Text Comparison

Compare an old draft with a new draft, check two lists for overlap, or spot what changed between two versions of a document. Paste both texts and the comparison appears below.

Comparison will appear here.

How to Use

  1. Paste the first text in the left box.
  2. Paste the second text in the right box.
  3. Click Compare Texts.
  4. Review common lines, lines only in the first text, and lines only in the second text.
  5. Copy the summary if you need to share it.

Why This Tool Helps

When two people edit the same document, or when a list is updated over time, it is hard to see what actually changed. Reading both versions side by side takes time and misses small edits. A line comparison shows the overlap and the differences clearly: lines that stayed the same, lines that were added, and lines that were removed. The similarity score gives a quick sense of how close the two versions are, which helps when reviewing student drafts, checking updated price lists, or auditing data before an import.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is similarity calculated?

Similarity is based on shared lines: the number of common lines divided by the total number of unique lines across both texts, shown as a percentage.

Does it compare word by word?

This tool compares line by line, which is best for lists, drafts, and version checks. For single paragraphs, put each sentence on its own line first.

Does spacing affect the comparison?

Leading and trailing spaces are trimmed before comparison, so extra spaces at the ends of lines do not create false differences.

Can I compare long documents?

Yes. Both texts can be long, and the summary lists only the lines that differ plus the common-line count.
